Scott McConnell, PhD
I earned my PhD in Dr. Robert Clubb’s lab at UCLA, where I used a multidisciplinary approach including NMR, SAXS, molecular dynamics and biochemistry to uncover new understandings about pilin-polymerizing sortases, which we then leveraged to engineer a novel isopeptide bond-forming bioconjugation tool for the field. Following that, I received postdoctoral training in the lab of Dr. Arturo Casadevall, where I studied the effects of isotype switching in immunoglobulins and engineered antibody constructs with unique catalytic properties. Today in the Krummel group, I am applying my background in structural biology, protein engineering and humoral immunity to a much more translational goal: the development of precision antibody therapies for uterine leiomyosarcoma – an ultra-rare cancer with limited treatment options.
